Kashmir Valley has been known as a paradise for its natural beauty and scenic views. This region is located at the foothills of the Himalayas, about 3000 meters above sea level. The weather here is beautiful all year round. The temperature ranges from 5°C to 35°C. The average annual rainfall is approximately 2000 mm. There are many tourist attractions like Pahalgam, Gulmarg, Sonmarg, Kishtwar, Srinagar, etc. The valley was once ruled by various dynasties like Rajputs, Mughals, Dogras, etc. Nowadays, this region is under the control of India. The major religions practiced in this area include Hinduism, Islam, Sikhism, Buddhism, Jainism, Christianity, etc. This place is famous for its beautiful lakes and rivers. Kashmir Valley is situated at an altitude of about 2000 meters above sea level. The climate of this region is moderate with cold winters and hot summers. The average annual rainfall in this valley is around 40 cm. There are two seasons in Kashmir Valley - summer and winter. Summer starts from March till May and lasts up to June and July. From August onwards, the temperature goes down and that's the time for the winter season.
The vegetation of Kashmir Valley consists of different types of trees like Pinus wallichiana (Giant Himalayan Cedar), Quercus sp., Ficus religiosa (Holy Fig), Juglans regia (Walnut), Cedrus deodara (Deodar Cedar), and Salix alba (Willow). Pine forests are common in the foothills of Kashmir Valley. Most of the pine forests have been destroyed due to the indiscriminate felling of trees for timber. The cultivation of the Kashmir region is based mainly on the cultivation of wheat, barley, vegetables, and fruits. But the major share of agricultural production comes from the cultivation of pulses, oilseeds, cereals, and fruit crops.Kashmir Valley has rich biodiversity and holds many rare species of animals and birds. Some of them are listed below:-
(i) Red Panda: This mammal is considered an Indian national animal. It is found only in the high mountains of northeastern parts of India.
(ii) Snow Leopard: This large cat is found in snow-covered areas of the high mountain ranges.
