Uffizi Gallery Florence - Museum Info & Pics

 Uffizi Gallery

The first thing that comes to mind when thinking about Florence is the Uffizi Gallery, but this was not always the case. Before the creation of the Uffizi, it was called the Palazzo Della Signoria. This was built from 1436-to 1441 and later became known as the Palazzo Vecchio. In 1655, after the Medicis were expelled from power, they sold off many of their assets. They included the palace, its contents, and even the garden. But, in 1874, the building came back under government control and since then has been referred to as the Museo Delle Terme di Diocleziano.

Uffizi Museum

When we think of a museum, we often think of something with great walls and a lot of art. However, the Uffizi is different. Its collection is much smaller than other museums. But what it lacks in size, it does with quality. Most of the works are painted by great artists including Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Titian, Raphael, and Caravaggio.
